How to check Oracle Database Version?

Opening support request with Oracle Support and looking for Oracle database version? It is 10G, 11G, 12C, but you need to enter complete details like 10.0.1.3.4 while raising a ticket. How to find version? You may ask DBAs to send this information, but you can find it by yourself by running queries against the database.

In this article, I am going to share methods to get exact Oracle Database Version.

Oracle maintains all this information in Data Dictionary Views or Metadata Table. You just need to run a query against these object to get the required version information.

Data Dictionary Views

V$VERSION – Displays version numbers of core library components in the Oracle Database.

PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION – contains version and status information for component products

Query 1: Get version information
